Today let's talk about social media.

Brands have been built, stars have been born, money has been made, and companies have been built using social media (think LiketoKnowIt, Reward Style, famous bloggers, and beauties that happened to be discovered by someone like Justin Bieber who posted a photo of them asking the world who they were and then were signed with modeling agencies as the next 'It' girl).

It's fucking wild.. can we just confirm this all together. Social media can be a blessing and a horrendous curse. Nowadays, there is so much more potential for online bullying that it worries me about having my own kids in fear that they would ever have to endure that. I sometimes read stories about young girls or boys committing suicide as they face online bullying unbeknownst to their biggest fans - their parents.

Then, there are also people who experience quite the opposite on social media. And are immediately successful at building a brand or an awareness because of the way they look - and the desire to look like them. That meme that talks about following more beautiful women than men is SO me. I love following beautiful people! I don't often feel shitty about myself after trolling pretty people, but it definitely does happen because it's nearly impossible to not compare your life to theirs and feel like wow, I'm really not doing it right am I?

Social media is a tricky thing. Because as a blogger, I need social support and a foundation to continue my presence online. But one thing that doing this takes a lot of, is time - which is something I don't have in the same way other 'full-time' bloggers do. I commute an hour and a half each way to work, work a full 8-9 hour day and then commute home, go to the gym, etc. So I don't have a ton of time during the day to document anything that people will care about. It's a catch-22 for sure, but something that I think about often as I tune into 'Instagram stories' of some of my favorite bloggers or influencers and see them doing fantastic things like traveling abroad, shooting beauty videos, etc.

Support from peers and friends is also huge. I know not everyone understands what 'blogging' is even about and it can come off as 100 superficial and selfish, but I'm really hoping to just fine tune my little space on the internet and connect with people and share my thoughts. Ask my husband, I have a lot of them ;)

Alas, I still am working on defining my brand on social media and using it as a means to an end of hopefully working with more brands, bringing in income, and helping to carve out a little piece of the online world to connect with like-minded people.

XOXO - Thanks for following along!

P.S. What are you hoping to read more of online from bloggers you follow? Love, blogging, alcoholism (jk), - anything in particular? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below !
